One Door Closes, A Better Door Opens (Literally!)

I love this door. Look at it. Just look at it! Not only for it's beauty, but because we've never had a door we could open like this, because we've never lived on the first floor like this.

 

There's that old adage about things happening for a reason. Well, the veracity of that is questionable, but in this case, it's so true.

 

Joe and I looked at an apartment 8 months ago, fell in love with it, applied...and didn't get it. "Sunny 3 Bedroom, one bathroom on the first floor of a three family in North Brighton." It was an old house, which we love. Not everybody does, lots of people go for the stainless steel kitchens and gray sheet rock walls of new construction. Not us. Give us old sturdy windows, built in sconces, all wood floors, vintage tiles, original wood trim--we love it. Old houses have charm and character, and this one did in spades.

 

But we got rejected outright. No explanation, The owner didn't even want to meet us. We were heartbroken. 

 

Joe's theory on why we were rejected was that they thought we were both gonna die on them, I guess from another heart attack and another stroke. My theory is that they looked us up online, which for me would have come up with Diary of a Low Budget Superhero. It's pretty clear where my politics lie. We must not have been "the right kind" of people.  

 

But soon after we had a great opportunity to see THIS place, LOVED IT, and got it. There's more to the story and people involved but that's the gist.

 

Now we're on our 5th month and it's been so great. The owners are fantastic people, all the neighbors we've met are awesome, especially upstairs, and we couldn't be happier. SO many plus'es. Boy, did that work out! SO lucky.

 

You guys, I just looked up that "Sunny 3 Bedroom" that rejected us? It's still not rented. Eight months later. They could have had over $20K of our money by now. And last month they've lowered the rent too. Now YOU'RE rejected. Too bad, so sad. You could have had rock stars.😼
