Movie: Gunpowder Milkshake (2021)

I watched Gunpowder Milkshake on Netflix yesterday and loved it! It's a woman-forward noir-esque action movie from 2021 with awesome fighting scenes. It's about an organized crime syndicate led by Nathan (Paul Giamatti) called The Firm who employs a whole army of assassins to carry out missions, including hit-woman Sam (Karen Gillan) who was brought up in the lifestyle from the age of 12. After one mission goes sideways, Sam finds herself trying to save an 8-year old girl from another crime boss, but when she's betrayed by The Firm and they all come after her to kill her, she's joined by the "librarians." Their lair is a library, and they're a group of badass women who have a plan. This movie has a ton of really clever intense action and a high body count, all women fighting for survival or vengeance. Think Kill Bill (especially the Crazy 88 scene), in the way that it's an intersection of Japanese sword fighting movies, mob movies, and car chase movies all set in an almost comic book-like world. Gunpowder Milkshake is an amazing action movie, and not just "for a women-led" or "for women" action movie. Everyone will get a kick out of this one. Highly recommended.
