The Reports Of My Death Are Greatly Exaggerated

"Are we ghosts?"
So get this. Last night I wanted to look up the GoFundMe that got set up for Joe and me when we got hit with calamity in August 2023, so I Googled for it. Imagine my surprise when I found us on a site listing "Couples 'Dying Suddenly.'" What the fuck? I sent the link to Joe asking, "Are we ghosts?" He found it to be both shocking and hilarious, so he posted it on Facebook.

He posted the link with:

"But I'm not dead yet! I was just sleeping!

** Note that we are fine, and apologies if anyone has a scare when they see the headline. **

Is the truth stranger than fiction? Are we really here? Is there no such thing as bad publicity? Am I somehow writing this from the great beyond?

Michelle found this story when she did a search to help her remember what kind of stroke she had. Then she sent this to me with the query "Are we ghosts?"

Maybe so. Maybe so.

Anyway, we've no idea how we ended up in the story, and we hope they don't have more information than we do."

Apparently it's some kind of right-wing anti-vax site, so I guess they're saying we died as a result of getting vaccinated. Yeah, no. Vaccinations are safe, people. Our friend Jessie was really mad about that, writing, "What the extra crispy chicken fried fuck is it with this anti-vax piece of shite saying that everyone he wrote about were unalived by the vax?!?" How did this yahoo even know we got the shots? That's not public info. So the guy is just talking out his ass.

Of all the memo's I didn't expect to have to write.

Hello,

Your writer, Dr. William Makis, has my husband and I at the top of a list of Couples “Dying Suddenly.”

I did in fact have a stroke, and Joe had a heart attack, but he got a heart transplant, and while that is amazing, I assure you that we are not dead. We checked. So would you mind removing us from the site before our moms see it?

Thank you,

md & jk

And how about "Writer/Blogger Michelle DiPoala?
